To Pet or Not to Pet
By
Vivek Hande
Dogs leave
paw prints on our heart. Whoever said that Diamonds are a girl’s best friend,
probably never had a dog. George Eliot remarks, “Animals are such agreeable
friends – they ask no questions; they pass no criticism.’ These are sentiments
all pet and dog lovers will vociferously endorse. Bill Watterson eulogizes this
relationship by asserting, ‘I wish people were more like animals. Animals don’t
try to change you or make you fit in. They just enjoy the pleasure of your
company.’
I have no
doubt all this and much more is true. I have seen many of my friends and family
whose life revolves around their ‘pets’. They are not pets – they are much more
than family to them. I have seen the joy and the heartbreaks vicariously
through them as they have lived with their pawed, furred, feathered and gilled
friends.
However, to
be honest, the world is divided into Pet- People and Non- Pet -People. I am not
a great fan of pets and don’t feel too comfortable around them. I don’t know if
getting bitten by stray dogs thrice, while growing up and getting jabbed in the
abdomen repeatedly has anything to do with it or my favorite and solitary
Armani jacket(slung casually on a sofa in a friend’s house) being the recipient
of a stream of prized Persian Cat piss(the host actually thought I was lucky!)
or being emotionally scarred in hostel at Medical College because of some reptilian pets of Seniors has
something to do with it. I can’t say I am Zoophobic(fear of Animals) or
Cynophobic( fear of Dogs) or Ailurophobic(fear of Cats) or Doraphobic(fear of
skin or hide of animals) but definitely a strong degree of discomfort or unease
exists when I am around them. I am possibly definitely Ophidiophobic(fear of
snakes). How anyone can have a pet snake sure bites/beats me.
While Dogs
and Cats are the commonest pets, there is no end to imagination when it comes
to having a pet in your corner. Many years ago while in hostel at the Medical
College, I had a taciturn senior who had tasked us Freshers to get a Frog each
day for his pet. I was pleased with my efforts, having sneaked a Frog out of
the pond behind the Physiology Department (Frog Experiments) and gingerly went
to deposit the offering. The intrepid senior told me to open the Shoe Box under
his bed and dump the frog in it. I was “pet”rified and don’t think I have
recovered from the reptilian hiss which greeted the amphibious meal. That was a
mile long snake coiled into the Bata Shoe Box. I have never trusted the shoe
company ever since and I am kind of wary of peeping under beds since that day.
Then there was yet another senior colleague who, as the legend goes, was denied
leave by his boss on some ground. The denial of leave was not taken kindly and
he released his pet snake Ophelia into the Boss’s garden where the ladies of
the station were having a pleasant Garden Party. The party was a disaster; the
leave was granted; the form for Leave application was amended to include a
column about nature of pets held by the applicant!
We recently read about an Indian Orthopedic Surgeon in Ukraine who refused to leave the war zone and return to India because he feared for the welfare of his twenty month old pet Jaguar and six month old Panther. The comfort with which he plays around with these big cats is unnerving.
The other day I went to visit someone.
They had six feet tall Labrador (it looked taller actually); very loving and
friendly and all of that. The host told me he does not bite and he is very
gentle. The gentle giant had me pinned to the edge of the sofa and
systematically decimated my corduroys and sneakers. When you are a Non- Pet -Person,
gentle giants can cause arrhythmias. That is another house off the visiting
list …
I have a dear friend who had a Central African Grey Parrot who went by the moniker Pogo. It was an excellent mimic and would imitate the door bell and the telephone ringtone to perfection. My friend lost a fair degree of weight, constantly attending to the door and rushing to pick up nonexistent telephone calls. Pogo also did a very good rendition of ‘Ala Ala Matwala’ from the movie Barfi.

There was yet another colleague whose daughter decided to acquire a pair of
turtles. Small little friendly creatures but they turned out be very conscious
of what they would eat. If not given Kraft Cheese and a Kale based salad to be
washed down with Pomegranate Juice, they would completely stop eating. And then
there was this gent who presented his son a pair of white mice as pets. They
were washed and combed every day and slept in a small little cage next to his
pillow. The pets were very popular with the family till one of them nibbled
away half an earlobe of Junior playfully. The father got an ‘earful’ and the
mice were banished.
From time immemorial, pets have been kept, adored, appreciated, indulged and the pet owners have, I am sure, gained positively from the interaction. But to be fair, it is a two-way street and one ought to have a pet only if one can give as much as one gets. It is often said, if trained properly, a man can be a dog’s best friend. And it may be good to remember, a cat looks down upon a man; a dog looks up to a man and a pig will look a man right in the eye and see his equal!

Great readings......Pets are loving...but can be demanding too
ReplyDeleteGreat read, as always!
ReplyDeleteFrom a person who's is zoology honors, u continue to excel in your penmanship. However of late it's been fewer and far between. But thoroughly enjoyed it every bit, senator
ReplyDeleteAfter a ruff day today, this sure brought a smile to my face. Paw-some piece!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading it. Great stuff
ReplyDeleteHappy to read and reminded of first and last pet (German shepherd) named Robert.
ReplyDeleteRealistic as ever though I am a great pet lover.
ReplyDeleteDelightful piece sir, am sure all your fans are purring away in happiness. Agree with the aforementioned comment that we all look forward to more frequent pieces from you.
ReplyDeleteGreat write up sir. Pet lovers are generally caring and responsible people.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree Sir! I am an animal lover but paradoxically a non pet person. My reason is simple- having a pet upsets the ecological balance. An animal is supposed to fend for itself and by creating "pets" we are introducing selection pressures for other animals. And after all we humans only have those animals as pets for whom we have a fancy. Its pure discrimination against those who are not cute/ beautiful/ fanciful! - Rohit Verma
ReplyDeleteGood one sir
ReplyDeleteFirst response was -when did you turn into pet lover, but going through it made it clear. wonderful piece as usual. Only been able to resist so far as you beautifully put the bottom line. Sir, you could blog often , may be like Julie and Julia!
ReplyDeleteVery well crafted piece of art sir. Full of humour, like always.
ReplyDeleteVivek was pleasure to read your piece. I agree there are these two extremes of folks Petty & Non Pettys!
ReplyDeleteThe Petty are often driven over to ensure caregiving! Rightfully so, it’s a huge responsibility as pets provide unconditional love ! Except an occasional nibble of ones earlobe.
But the No Pets guys are mortified by the licking, barking and indeed sometimes of the incisors eating into human flesh! That said, pets are *A thing of beauty, and joys forever*!

Very interesting sir. Very well written 👏👏👏
ReplyDeleteWritten with great flare as usual. A well researched blog on pets and being a pet neutral person myself, I firmly believe as you brought out that if your have a pet, treat it well. Happy Blogging 🐶
ReplyDeleteA great read sir! Enjoyed it thoroughly, as always
ReplyDeleteGreat publication Sir!!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent article as always!
ReplyDeleteAs a pet person and owner, living with the opposite kind, I’m struck by how you’ve spoken for both…. so remarkably exact in your account of the way it goes with pets. It’s terrific . Your gift of composition is intact, sir!
ReplyDeleteIt’s most enthralling going through your write ups and vlog. Definitely vivid more soever for an animal lover where his own birdie Pogo, the African Grey is also having a paragraph for itself. Your imaginations bring new panorama to the reader. Well written tasteful narrative of incredible animals. Bravo Zulu 🥂
ReplyDeleteSir, Well crafted and realistic piece of art ! Enjoyed reading it !!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully penned and very relatable to all the pet lovers n non pet lovers….
ReplyDeleteAs always such a fun read Doc V :)
ReplyDeleteI am a pet person (read doggos..only doggos 🐶🐾) but I forgive my husband for not being one 😂 I also believe (as someone quoted) that a part of your soul remains unawakened if you haven't had a pet ❤️ but (again as someone quoted above) one should have pets only if you can give as much as you get from them ❤️❤️❤️
PS: "Chill...my dog doesn't bite" to me is the equivalent of "That snake is harmless. It's non-venomous" 🤣 I mean the bite, sting, poison...these come much later 😂 !
Great fun to read Director! In our house my wife and I are at the opposite end of pet- ophilia! So I satisfy my pet cravings at my friends’ place! Pogo the parrot that u spk of was our neighbor in Delhi and would whistle at all the young ladies and the poor owner’s son had to face their ire!!
ReplyDeletePawtastic !! Intros can be deceptive indeed!! Despite being a Pet Parent, thoroughly enjoyed this piece!! And agree to many serious points brought out so hilariously!! Keep writing … your gems are almost getting extinct !
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the write-up on pets, but I too am not a pet person but love animals to be left the way nature wants them to be left.
ReplyDeleteEntertaining read! And you’re brave to admit your pet unaffiliation!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading the piece, Vivek. I was reminded of the time we were alloted a flat in Bangalore whose previous occupants had a variety of pets- dogs, cats, birds, and even a python. I had to probe every nook and corner of the house for python eggs before moving in!
ReplyDeleteCan see your lifetime experiences with pets. Fantastic piece Vivek. Write more often.
ReplyDeleteDear Vivek,
ReplyDeleteBrilliant article as usual.
Enjoyed every bit of it.
Over time I have slowly evolved from "Non pet deeply fearful" to "Non pet neutral" (yes, the non petty folks also have classifications)....your article got me one step closer to pet. Becoming a convert is still a mile away, but a step is a step.
Please write more often.
Wonderful read sir. I echo your thoughts about pet and non pet people because I am a non pet person too
ReplyDeleteSir. A wonderful read and so true. And I can relate to this completely as my house is divided into pet and no pet zone .. my wife and son for the former and myself and my daughter for the later..... looking forward to more such reads.
ReplyDeleteWonderfully written!! We love pets and don't mind being around dogs, cats, turtles or pigs 😂. We have 2 cats in the house amd can't think of our lives without them!! 😍 I will hide them in another room when yoi come home 😃
ReplyDeleteOnce again a very interesting read, Vivek. As an
ReplyDeleteardent pet lover I can relate to so many things in this post . Believe me, keeping a pet once converts the most hard core petophobics for life.
Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI can personally relate with many of the reasons given by you to keep away from pets
Thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful read and so appropriate. Luckily it gives a perspective of a non pet person which pet lovers like me don’t understand.Just yesterday we had a couple pinned to their sofa seats as my dogs sniffed them thoroughly . I realise we have to be careful with the guests😃😃
ReplyDeleteInteresting and hilarious...
ReplyDeleteThis is such an interesting topic Vivek...something which is on my mind 24×7...i was never a pet lover....inlaws had dogs but they stayed a mile away from me as i never showed any affection to them. Always shooed away angrily any stray that came near me ....till 4 years back so a stray dog giving birth to 4 puppies and all of them being killed by taxi and car drivers. From here on i started loving 4 legged babies more ...started feeding 14 of these on roads...gave them protection...yet was still scared of them...till i rescued and adopted an abandoned dog...one of the most loveable...soft and sweet creature on the earth. He is Baloo Singh...our 3rd child now....our life has changed....we had planned to travel post retirement...but overseas does not seem possible now....yet cannot resent this furry baby....as you have written...he gives us unconditional love and comfort...and i who cd not go 100 meters near a furry pet...now have baloo on our bed...wont have it any other way.
ReplyDelete😂😂.......real world description of pet'o'phobia........
ReplyDeleteWe are pet persons. Recently lost our darling..can relate..
ReplyDeleteThoroughly Enjoyed reading this realistic ,hilarious article Sir 👏 👌
ReplyDeleteAs always..great..Enjoyed, despite a non pet person😊😊
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet and gentle article Vivek! Just loved the simplicity with which you brought out the fears of non pet lovers....I completely share your views or to say - we are in the same boat!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent piece sir. Articulate, informative and humourous. Please do keep writing. The frequency is going down. Love to read more from you.
ReplyDeleteAwesome
ReplyDeleteLovely piece. For myself, I cannot recall a period in life when I was not close to some animal; mostly commonplace domestic pets while some exotic and unusual ones.
ReplyDeleteThe anecdote about your senior triggered off my own memory of letting loose a snake on my Class 12 Biology teacher's table, asking for identification.
Needless to say, chaos ensued.
Keep publishing more often.
Sorry Vivek. It's not anonymous. It's malayjoshi
DeleteVivek as always a excellent piece of realistic feelings beautifully penned.
ReplyDeleteAll my family members are pet lovers & besides dogs, cats, birds, squirrel, rabbit I had opportunity of having banded crate as pet when I was medical officer of special forces !!
Waiting for next issue 😉 keep writing
MCAFG882
ReplyDeleteGood one, as always, Vivek. Looks like we're in opposite corners this time! But no hard feelings, says my Beagle.
ReplyDeleteLoved the furry tales of Pe - Tete
ReplyDeleteWell written piece. Being a "petophobic" myself, I agree with most observations!!
ReplyDeleteGood write up as usual, Vivek. Being a pet lover myself, it was a valuable insight into the other side. Feel sorry for that Armani jacket.
ReplyDeleteDear Sir, echo the sentiments as i find being cornered by overzealously pampered pets (especially the canine variety) whilst being looked along by beaming pet- parents a tad uncomfortable!!
ReplyDeleteShamakanth.
Wonderful read Sir. Brilliant. Hilarious! Esp the one about the Bata Shoe Box.!!
ReplyDeleteVivek, Good read, personally been a dog lover and so are my children. Love the giant docile ones! Smaller one appear more temperamental to me! A one time had 3 dogs - a German Shepherd, Dalmatian and a Pomeranian! Surely staying with them comes with great responsibilities, taking care of them being paramount; not leaving them alone when you travel out. Equally respecting people who don’t like them, rather than saying each time he does nothing when probably they are growling and sensing someone doesn’t like them. Surely the jury is divided…
ReplyDeleteThoroughly enjoyed! Great stuff
ReplyDeleteTo pet.......all the way and more....but can associate with why not....lovely piece
ReplyDeleteVery informative & peppered with humour. Easily classifying the 2 groups. Although I am a non pet person, I do feel bad for the pets who get confined in flats without much freedom of movement & they are always kept on a leash outdoors. Keep posting, your humorous & informative writings, got an opportunity after quite some time.
ReplyDeleteThere is another category of people who are not overtly pet persons but have no issues with other peoples pets. I consider these very fortunate because when visiting friends or relatives, I am guilty of requesting my host to either tie the pet or send to another room as I am not very comfortable. I never had a pet as a child however, I feel that children who are used to pets since their childhood go on to have pets as adults.
ReplyDeleteA 'paw'erful piece. 👏👏👏👏
ReplyDeleteAwsum read Vivek 🤗
ReplyDeleteLoved reading the piece, as I do almost all your writing. Reminded me of our dachshund, who was to have been named Otto von Bismarck but his "human", my daughter, decided that he would be Pickles. An encounter with Germanic pride was avoided, but Pickles, who had assiduously modelledhimself on a Slinky, now decided that he was a human bring and remained in that state of enlightened truth, daily demonstrating much of what we would have been proud of in human beings had the latter had even half the intelligence and grace of Pickles ..
ReplyDeleteBilloo Chauhan
Totally related to your segregation of the world into pet and non-pet people , I have been both sides and got converted thanks to my son n DIL who got us a grand dog 🥂
ReplyDeleteAmazingly written sir ❤️
ReplyDeleteA very nice read. As a pet parent I am very happy to go through this article. Thank you for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteVery well written. Great to have pets at home and very joyful feeling when you see birds frequently visiting your house and enjoying cold water dip in sweltering heat
ReplyDeleteVery nicely peticulated
ReplyDeleteHumorous, witty and informative. Enjoyed the article. I don't have a pet, so you can visit my home without any problem.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a running commentary from your college days. Lucid.Reptile in Bata Box. Awesome. Enjoyed reading and must appreciate rich content. Regards
ReplyDeletePets are an ingrained part of us and their attachment is immortal. Senator you have called this out so clearly and I am full agreement .
ReplyDeleteGreat read, Sir.
ReplyDeleteSir, Read keeps us glued till the end as always. Great flow… Thanks and Regards
ReplyDeletePet owners can get Catscratch fever,Sudoku,Salmonella,Rabies, hook worm, tape worm, bronchial asthma
ReplyDeleteGreat rid. Awesome write up. Enjoyed every bit of it from a medico..
ReplyDeleteFantastic and hilarious. Pawfect. The emotional nuances very nicely brought out Sir. The Bata Box and the fear for life looking for them in the shoes is so very relatable. Looking forward to more such stories Sir.
ReplyDeleteAwesome piece. Nice read early morning. Keep Going Doc you have amazing skills with your words.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written sir.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant...as usual
ReplyDeleteAmazing article beautifully penned down with small incidences one can relate too!
ReplyDeleteSuperlative Sir.... Enjoyed reading!
ReplyDeleteDear Senator, If only you had a pet , forgetting all that you said about not being pet person, heart of heart you are and you would make a great pet parent , let us say a Labrador or German shepherd.... I would have suggested the name Senator for former and Vivek for the latter...... Tthe Senator that I know would be picture perfect with a furred friend looking on as he blogged........
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy your blogs replete with humour which can only be Classifed as Hande special. Keep writing ...Best wishes!
A pawsome article sir. Beautifully put. !!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful as usual
ReplyDeleteGreat read
ReplyDeleteSir, very well articulated, this brought my memories about my female German Shepherd Dog Justina, stayed with us for 12 yrs… so friendly and stress buster. Always happy seeing you.. thank you, always love reading your article sir..
ReplyDeleteNicely penned! Certainly not a pig for a pet!!
ReplyDeleteVery very nicely written.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed thoroughly reading this stuff.
Want to buy bichon fries.
A very well written article Sir. . .. worth a read
ReplyDeleteBeautiful piece sir
ReplyDeleteTo come across balanced, logical and unbiased opinion on any matter, itself is rarity now a days.
ReplyDeleteCoVID increased pet population in many houses, and new pet lovers have emerged. This has to do with more free time, fear of unknown, some other reason or combination of all, am not sure.
Adolf hitler had pets too, if I still have some history GK within me.
Many times it enhances the feeling of grandiosity, like horse riders also feel.
The family like association with animals has been seen by all of us and can only be appreciated. It takes so much of effort to raise them and love them.
I have high regards for pet owners and happy to note the amount of love and care showered upon them.
Once you see writing from the gut, God s hand blesses it.
Happy to read it. Wishing to read more and more contents like these.
Enjoyed this Sunday morning read so much sir. Each paragraph paints such a vivid hilarious mind picture :D. Thank you for sharing sir.
ReplyDeleteA very subtle portrail of the facts of being pet friendly or otherwise. I was for one an unfriendly person towards pets but ever since I got one at home due to pressures from my daughter, I have changed 180 degrees. My pet dog brings in lot of joy and positive vibes to our family.
ReplyDeleteAs always, brilliant.
ReplyDeleteImportantly, it could not be more timely for me. I am/ was not a ‘cat person’ at all. Now back from sailing, I see my wife and daughter in bed, with not one but two kittens - who have over the period of my periodical absences, grown into cats!
While my reservations persist I am weighing the strength of my aversion versus the very evident affection that they bring to our home.
Guess a part of my soul is slowly awakening…… 🤞🤞🤞
Warmest regards and thanks again for sharing!!!
Wonderful read as always sir..
ReplyDeleteA totally invigorating morning read Sir! As someone who transitioned from a non Petty to Petty person over past 2 decades I could relate with all your witty takes.. From fishes to turtles to furs the journey is summed up so well by your concluding comment!! 👏🏼
ReplyDeleteVery nicely written with beautiful insertions.
ReplyDeleteGreat one sir
ReplyDeleteToo good….
ReplyDeleteA fluid read sir. Finished bottoms up. Me being a pet lover and my wife being a non pet person, we had our tiff initially..End result- No pets for us now. While the part of soul remains in blissful slumber all parts of my body is intact .
ReplyDeleteHi sir,
ReplyDeleteAnother unputdownable fluid read. Finished it bottoms up..Me being a pet person, could thoroughly relate to be in the shoe box while with better half being a non pet person, She could relate to you more...End result!!No pets for me in near or distant future.
Very well narrated memoirs sir. Some hilarious and some left me in awe. A wonderful read sir.
ReplyDeleteSir, thanks for the interesting read...... despite being a non-pet lover, your obserbations into both pets and pet lovers are quite insightful .....
ReplyDeleteMy input sir ,, these categories are not water tight as I have seen scores transition from pet haters / neutral to pet lovers...
Wonderful post Sir, as always. Humorous, relatable and beautifully written. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWonderful article as always senator . Kudos to u for writing such a piece, while being a non person yourself.maybe your experiences will convert u to a pet person soon👌👍
ReplyDeleteExcellent piece Vivek as always!! Keep them coming.
ReplyDeleteExcellent article Sir as always...
ReplyDeleteReally excellent piece sir. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWonderful read sir....
ReplyDeleteExcellent dear Hande. Always a pleasure to read your blog, having content, context & pun of course. Brig Bhat
ReplyDeleteBrought out so realistically, step by step could relate... One more arrow added to the quiver . An excellent share Sir
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading it sir. Very much interesting.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyable read, bringing up and tending to a pet’s needs can be a lot of work, however, it teaches many life’s lessons too. The best part is returning home to a pet when one is welcomed with pure uncontaminated joy without any judgement or strings attached
ReplyDeleteYour point of view really gives one a point to ponder...Gr8 read as always Vivek.. Keep it more often.. Bravo...😊
ReplyDeleteAs always an excellent read sir
ReplyDeleteGreat read sir . Very much relatable sir
ReplyDeleteExcellent article Sir..you have brought out both sides of the coin like picture perfect.. fabulous read. Keep them coming
ReplyDeleteVery well written sir
ReplyDeleteExcellent write up
ReplyDeleteSir, superb piece as always. Enjoyed reading it.
ReplyDeleteExcellent article once again and as usual sir...
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading ... thanks for sharing 😊
😊 That's a brilliant one sir. I was like this and had all kinds of "pet-o-phobia", until one day a Labrador puppy changed it. Since then, am cool with most kinds, except Doberman and probably Snakes 🐍(never got a chance to check it out).
ReplyDeleteAs a Pet Parent, lovely to read the excellent article, thank you 'Senator' for the interesting read as usual
ReplyDeleteGreat piece ! An honest confessions coming from a Non Pet person but highly motivating for fence sitters to get converted to a Pet person
ReplyDeleteVivek I happen to be a pet person. My only grouse is that many people tend to humanise their pets. One should not forget they are animals
ReplyDeleteAs always a pleasurable read sir! Truly can relate as I am pretty much a No-pet person with the reverse true for my wife....nevertheless pets still appear to be true partners esp dogs...and as long as i dont have to take responsibility of one, they are lovable too!!🙃
ReplyDeleteexcellent write up.
ReplyDeleteGreat read sir ..
ReplyDeleteA masterly rendition of all the pets we humans can ever pet ..
Very well written sir and i totally agree with the saying " best therapist
ReplyDeletehas fur and 4 legs".
Really enjoyed reading this!
ReplyDeletePets are lovable, more you love them more they love you....
ReplyDeleteBut rogue pets are still there who take and never give!
Lovely write up vivid desription .
Excellent piece, well crafted and brilliantly articulated Sir, as always...
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed each and every line of this writing. You have really written very well and seems to have independent knowledge of various pets. Keep writing frequently so that we can enjoy.
ReplyDeleteWow Sir... Awesome thinking...
ReplyDeleteSuch an interesting read , as always . Please keep these fluid expressions coming !
ReplyDeleteNice topic! Interesting to learn the names of the phobias and very amusing anecdotes...keep on writing, Vivek!
ReplyDeleteExcellent piece as always. I have seen the types who are petrified at the first sight of a pet in the house. Thankfully I am not one of them.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautifully and compassionate work of art. It's as if you are almost in ....what a well felt article. Lived every bit of it. Seema -Gaur Row
ReplyDeleteAs usual, it was a wonderful read.. Your writings are so vivid and descriptive that one can almost visualise the whole scene for oneself... Totally relate to some of the incidents.... Amazing Sir!
ReplyDeletePlease write more often, though... Been long since you wrote the last piece.
Very refreshing article and amazing one as one can see from long list of admirers..
ReplyDeletePlease do write more often sir, looking forward to next one
Very well put across your views as non pet lover.. 👍👍👌🙏By the way, I am an absolute Pet lover, having an experience of being partner with a Dachshund, a German Shepherd, few love birds, a parrot. If you like pets then the chemistry is totally different but to share with you... Simply amazing.. Thanks for the lovely write up. 🙏
ReplyDeleteThe above comment is bg me... Dr Mohan Roe.
ReplyDeleteI don't know whether you have actually seen a labrador in reality or are just writing for the sake of writing anything you want. It's clear that you are a no pet person. But pl get your facts straight. A Labrador Retriever has an overall body length of roughly 36”-42” (91-107 cm which is roughly between 2 feet 11.827 inch to 3 feet 6.126 inches), standing height between 28”-33” (71-84 cm). I am yet to see a labrador going upto 6 feet as mentioned by you. Maybe you are confusing a Great Dane with a labrador. Totally pathetic article, wrong facts written with a lopsided view. Cats, pigs, dogs parrots have better level of intelligence than what you attribute them.
ReplyDeleteDelightfully penned as usual. I couldn’t stop but to forward to all my pet lover friends.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful article pet and non pets. I am a pet keeper (Labrador) , it’s such a nice feeling can’t be written in words. I wish India have pet friendly atmosphere like in western countries. In India a herd of strays can roam around freely and dirty the park but no one will raise a finger. The moment you take a pet inside park, there will be immediate negative reactions from people around.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great article, sir..and though I love animals, I just do not have the energy to bring up another child!
ReplyDeleteNice one. We are also non pet people. The only time we had to look after a dog was when a Naval colleague left his Pom with us when he went on leave. We were automatically chosen because that little dog ate only curd and rice. He had got it from an Iyer family and we qualified automatically to look after her for a month
ReplyDeleteGreat reading as always sir. As a Psychiatrist we too recommend pet therapy for disorders like depression and anxiety.
ReplyDeleteVivek , Thank you for this very interesting piece . I thoroughly enjoyed reading it despite being a non pet person .
ReplyDeleteThank you Vivek for this very interesting piece of writing . Thoroughly enjoyed reading it .
ReplyDeleteI loved it indeed
ReplyDeleteAnother great and marvellous reading Sir. It is true some people including my near and dear ones cannot be separated from their pets, I am bit non pet type.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAs in the past, another refreshingly humourous article.
ReplyDeleteI can understand your "Not a Pet Person" aspect, my wife is one such person.
However, you might change your mind if you do have one (and I don't mean to suggest that you get a reptilian or the big Cat variety), but a nice well behaved Canine.
They don't answer back (unlike some female members of the house), they don't ask for flowers or gifts (again like a few female members of the house), they love you and the entire family (including the same female members of the house).
Incidentally, I've had a dog almost all my life (most importantly even after the female member joined my journey in life), and they have been one constant source of comfort, peace and love.
Make your posts more frequent, they are a pleasure to read and helps lighten the mood.
As always so smoothly articulated making excellent reading , Vivek!! Loved the adaptation of "pet"rified bit!! Truly , the subject has attracted a huge response.I also feel that while pets do bring in immense joy to the owners "unleashing" them on guests may not always be welcome from the other side. And the story of your beloved Armani Jacket is just the tip of the pet-excrement stories which have at times made best of friends quarrel and become enemies !!
ReplyDeleteKeep 'em coming ...great work as always!!Best wishes
Mudit
Amazing.very interesting.🙏
ReplyDeleteBrilliant as always. Nice read sir. Thoroughly enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteMahesh H
Excellent piece. Keep them coming.
ReplyDeleteVery beautifully written as always. I loved the pet-rified and a man can be a dog’s best friend if trained. Lovely 👌🏻
ReplyDeleteHilarious; Refreshing 👌🏻😀
ReplyDeleteBeautifully penned Sir. I am the only Non-pet person in the family. I also made my daughter read your piece as there is a constant debate in the house to add a pet to the family. She also loved it and could relate to my being a non- pet person. We couldn’t stop laughing at the Bata shoe box incident and enjoyed all the illustrations but as always she strongly believes that pets adds happiness and warmth to our lives and tries to convince us each day to bring one.Thank you for sharing this very relatable piece.
ReplyDeleteNicely written sir. Enjoyed reading. Request to write more frequently.
ReplyDeleteSir, you have a wonderful flair for writing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful piece of writing sir.
ReplyDeleteGreat reading and well written as usual. I thought my Journey in this Life would end as non pet owner, but my Daughter voted down opposition, we now have a Bosnian shepard at home, and despite loosing some cherished clothes, shoes and finding dog hair all over my previously spotless jacket, its a treat to have her!!
ReplyDeleteNice piece. Hats off to the pet lovers who spare time and energy to take care of them. I suppose it must be emotionally rewarding or else it's difficult to motivate oneself for that kind of commitment.
ReplyDeleteAwesome sir ….I miss my pet a lot ….
ReplyDelete
